1. Where and what everything is
The 'Dashboard' page
When you login to studentfolio you'll be taken to the 'Dashboard' page, this is your notifications page where you'll be alerted to pages you've published, content that's been shared with you, forum posts you've subscribed to as well as any feedback your tutors have released to you. You can change which blocks you see on your personal homepage by clicking the 'Edit dashboard' button:
This will open up the standard page editor and you can add or remove boxes on the Dashboard Page, including your Inbox, Profile information and Journal entries. You can also use the drag-and-drop feature to reorganise your Dashboard view.
Your 'Profile' page
This page is your 'about you ' page that other users on the site can view. To view and edit this page click on your profile picture at the top right of the screen (to the right of the search box), then your name and click the 'Edit this page' link.
Content area (from the ☰ menu)
The content area is where you can add information about yourself, add profile pictures, add and manage files and folders, manage your CV, write your Journal entries, create and manage project 'Plans'. This is not visible to anyone but yourself, but can be added to portfolio pages and then shared or published on the web.
Portfolio area (from the ☰ menu)
The Portfolio area is where you build your portfolio pages using information in your 'Content' area as well as embedding external content, e.g. videos you have posted on YouTube or Vimeo, Blog posts you've written, Presentations you've published. You can also build a series of portfolio pages together into a Collection (website). The Portfolio tab is also where you go to share your portfolio or to view pages others have shared with you.
Groups area (from the ☰ menu)
You may be directed by your lecturers to join a group in studentfolio. Groups are used to facilitate a number of learning and collaborative activities including the formal submission of portfolio pages. Once registered in a group they will be listed here.
3. Register with your groups
Your tutor may have set up groups for a variety of reasons but it's important that you register on them as they will affect how you work with studentfolio and may be required as part of your assignment submission. For more information visit the 'All about Groups' page.
5. Create a Profile
When you search for people on the site and then click on their name you'll be taken to their 'Profile Page'. Everyone on the site has a page like this, it can be edited to include other information about you that you want to share with site users. See 'Your Profile Page' for details.
2. Upload a 'Profile Picture'
The profile picture you set as the 'default' one will become your site picture and is how other users of studentfolio can recognise you, so add a photo and set it to the default image. See 'Your Profile Page' for details of how to do this.
4. Find your friends
Like other social media sites you can connect with 'friends', this means it's easier for you to share, post messages and exchange information on the site. To find friends just search for them using the 'search' box on the dashboard page, locate the correct person and then click the 'send friend request' link to the right of their name.
NOTE - you can also send them a message via this route too.
