  2. Find groups - Search for groups to join.
  3. My friends - a list of people you've made a Friend.
  4. Find friends - Search for other people on studentfolio you want to connect with and make a friend.
  5. Shared pages - shows a list of the pages that others have allowed you to view.
  6. Topics - lists the Discussion Forums taking place in groups you are part of.

When you're a member of a group, you can share pages and files with other members, and participate in group activities such as  discussion forums and building group pages.

1. My Groups

You'll find a list of the Groups you're already member of, you've been invited to join or requested membership of.

You can use the drop down menu with the Filter button to show only those groups you're interested in viewing. For example selecting 'Groups I want to join' will show those groups you've requested membership of.

Note: You'll also be able to see a list of the Groups you've joined from the Dashboard in the Personal Information panel on the right.

2. Find Groups

Use this section to search for and find groups you want to join.

a. Search  - Type in keywords to find groups. The search will show matches using the title and description of the group. You can limit your search using the drop down menu to: Groups you're not in, Groups you're in and All groups.

In the list of Groups shown, you can find out more information for a group by:

  • Clicking the group title to see the group homepage.
  • Checking the name/s of the group administrators.
  • Clicking on the member to see who else is a member. (If this has been allowed by the group adminstrator.)

To join a group.

Depending on how groups have been set up by your tutor, you'll see different joining options:

b. Accept or Decline - These buttons appear if you have been invited to join a group by the group adminstrator (usually your tutor). You can chose to become a member by clicking Accept or turn it down by clicking Decline.

c. Join this group - This button shows that membership of this group is un-restricted (Open) and anyone can chose to join. Clicking the button will immediately make you a member. Note: You'll also able to leave an Open group at any time by clicking the 'Leave this group' button.

d. Request to join this group - This button indicates that the group has a closed membership and you'll need to ask the group adminstrator for permission to join. Clicking the button will send a message to the administrator who'll either accept or decline your request.

Note: In most cases you'll need to take action to join a group but sometimes you may be added to a group automatically by your tutor.

3. My Friends

In this section you can see a list of people who:

a. Have made a Friend Request. You can click Approve Request or Deny Request next to their name.

b. Are already your Friends in studentfolio.

Note: You can use the drop down menu with the Filter button to show only Current Friends, Pending Friends or All Friends.

4. Find Friends

This section allows you to:

  • Search for people who are have profiles on studentfolio
  • And to send a friend request
The person you send the friend request to can chose to either Approve or Deny your request. If they accept it, you will both appear on each others list in My Friends.

Note: Friend requests are sent as messages in studentfolio and can be seen in either the Personal Information panel or under Recent Activity on the Dashboard.

Friends Control

In the My Friend > Find Friends screen is a control panel that allows you to specify how people can make you a friend.

The default setting is for 'New friends to require my authorisation' and this means that they need to request friendship and you can chose to accept or decline this.

5. Shared with me (Under Portfolio tab)

You can find pages that have been shared with you by other users under Portfolio > Share with me.

This section lists the pages that you have been given permission to view by someone else. The most recently modified or commented on pages are shown first. These will be pages that:

a. The person who created it (the owner) has chosen share with you. (Either directly, as a friend, as a logged-in user or a public page.)

b. Or pages from a group you are a member of.

The Search box can be used to find particular pages by keyword in the title, description or tags on a page.

The Advanced options can be used to refine the results of a search by choosing to Sort results by Last update or comment, Last update, Owner or Title. And limiting the pages shown by how they have been Shared with you.
