Creating your Profile

What is my Profile Page used for?

Your Profile Page is used for other users of this site to see who you are, what interests you may have (whether research, learning or personal). There is a social learning aspect to this site, you can send Friend requests based on the content of a profile page.

Creating your Profile Page

Start to create your profile by clicking the Content tab

1. Add a profile picture

To add a profile picture click the blank face icon to browse to an image on your computer that you want everyone to see. Make sure the picture is appropriate and probably just your face.

Note the size restrictions. If your preferred picture is too large, you may have to rescale it first

Add another picture if you’d like different images for different pages and audiences (i.e. for friends or prospective employers) then choose which one is default. You can delete and add as you wish

You can edit these at any stage via the Profile Pictures link under the Content tab

2. Other Profile information

Click the Profile link over at the top left to access the other profile tabs

a) About me

Name - You could edit your first and last name – though that wouldn’t be wise. What you may want to change is your ‘Display Name’. The system may know you as Florence but you like to be called Flo.

Introduction – this is where you can tell people about yourself

b) Contact information : This is largely self-explanatory as shown below. Note that any information you include here is private until you include it on a page that is shared with others

c) Messaging  : Again, this is self –explanatory. Note that any information you include here is private until you include it on a page that is shared with others

d) General : Once again, this is self –explanatory.
